Overview
Rara Lake is the largest alpine freshwater lake nestled in Nepal’s Himalayas. The Lake lies at an elevation of 2,990 meters / 9,810 feet above sea level, having a length of 5.1 kilometers, a width of 2.7 kilometers, and a maximum depth of 167 meters / 548 feet. Known as The Queen of Lakes, it was declared a Ramsar site and falls under Rara National Park. Rara National Park is the smallest national park in Nepal, covering 106 sq. km of area. The park has a wide range of unique biodiversity. The lake holds three endemic fish species of snow trout, and 1074 species of flora of which 16 are endemic to Nepal, 51 species of mammals, and 300 species of birds are found around the park.
