MT. KAILASH AND MANSAROVAR YATRA

9 Days

Mt. Kailash and Mansarovar: Towering at 6,714 meters west of Tibet, Mount Kailash is a holy mountain revered by four major religions. Hindus consider it the abode of Lord Shiva. Tibetan Buddhists believe it’s the residence of Samvara, a powerful deity. In the ancient Bon religion, it was the sacred Swastika Mountain, the descent point of the creator deity Shenrab.

The 53-kilometer circumambulation route around Kailash, known as the Kailash Kora, is a central pilgrimage for Hindus and Buddhists, and a major draw for visitors. Legend says completing one Kora cleanses your sins, while 108 repetitions lead to enlightenment.

Lake Manasarovar

Nestled below Mount Kailash lies the sacred freshwater lake, Manasarovar, at an elevation of 4,580 meters. A holy dip in its waters is believed to grant access to Brahma’s paradise, while drinking from the lake washes away sins.

Join us Female Guide Kathmandu on an unforgettable eight-day pilgrimage to the sacred land of Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar! Our journey begins in Kathmandu, Nepal, where we’ll cross the border into Tibet.

Itinerary

We will depart from Kathmandu to the Kerung Border early in the morning, traveling in either a tourist bus or a coaster, depending on the group size. The journey to the Kerung Border typically takes about 8 hours, though this may vary based on road conditions. We will spend the night at a hotel upon arrival.

After breakfast early in the morning, you will head toward Prayang. Along the way, you will have a view of the gateway to Mount Kailash. Prayang is situated at an elevation of approximately 4,700 meters. You will spend the night at a hotel.

Wake up early in the morning, have breakfast, and drive to the holy Mansarovar Lake. Upon arrival, you can take a holy bath, perform puja, and do some sightseeing around Mansarovar. You will spend the night at a local guesthouse.

Wake up early in the morning and take a dip in the holy Lake Mansarovar. Perform Puja (prayer ritual) at the lake and do Kora (Parikrama) using a government bus, as private vehicles are not allowed for this purpose. After completing the holy bath and Kora, drive to Darchen, the entrance to Holy Mt. Kailash. You will spend the night at a hotel.

The Kailash Kora typically begins on the western edge of Darchen. The first day features a mild and moderate trek, with a gradual increase in altitude and some gentle ups and downs, making it manageable. It’s best to start your trek early in the morning. You may hire a porter and yaks to carry your day packs. You will spend the night at a local guesthouse.

This is the most challenging part of the 3-day Kora, as you will tackle the Drolma La Pass at 5,630 meters. Take extreme care with the drastic ascent and descent during the trek. It is advised not to stay at the Drolma La Pass for too long, as the thin air and strong wind can be harmful. After a short rest, proceed with a steep downhill trek to the banks of the Lham-chu Khir river. Here, you will catch sight of the Holy Pond of Gaurikunda. Continue to the village of Juthulpuk, where you can see the famous cave of Juthulpuk, also known as the "miracle cave." Along the way, you will also spot the Buddha’s Footprints. Overnight at a local guesthouse.

We will spend the morning touring the nearby Milarepa Cave and temples. After breakfast, we will climb for three to four hours to complete our Kora and return to the Zutrulpuk settlement. We will have lunch there before heading back to Saga. Overnight stay at a hotel.

We will enjoy a smooth ride on paved Tibetan roads back to the settlement of Kerung, located at the border between Nepal and Tibet. Tonight, we will stay on the Tibetan side of Kerung. This is our day off, so we can relax and spend the night at a guesthouse in Kerung.

After completing the immigration procedures at the Nepal-Tibet border, it will be time to say goodbye to our Tibetan team. We will then drive back to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Our team will bid you farewell, and you will be free to enjoy your own activities.
