The Kathmandu-Pokhara pilgrim tour to the five most important Hindu temples in Nepal is a luxurious 6-day package. The tour starts with a visit to Pashupatinath Darshan in Kathmandu and then proceeds to Dakshinkali, Manakamana, Bindhya Bashini, and Varahi.
Pashupatinath, the most important Hindu temple in Nepal, is located on the banks of the holy Bagmati River northwest of Kathmandu and holds significant spiritual importance for Hindus worldwide. The temple features a gold-plated roof, bejeweled doors, intricate flowered motifs, and high-quality woodcarvings.
The pagoda-like temple, built on a 24-meter platform, stands in an open courtyard and has entrances on all four sides. While non-Hindus are barred from entering the temple, they can still view it and its surroundings from the opposite bank of the river.
Dakshinkali is a temple dedicated to the Goddess Kali, located at the confluence of two sacred streams in a rocky cleft in the forest, and is a popular pilgrimage site for Hindus.
Manakamana is a significant temple in the middle hills, dedicated to the wish-fulfilling Hindu Goddess. It overlooks terraced fields, the Trisuli and Marshyangdi river valleys, and offers a vantage point for viewing the Manaslu, Himalchuli, and Annapurna massifs to the north. Accessible via a cable car station in Cheres, it provides a quick 10-minute ride to the temple.
Bindhya Basini, located north of Pokhara, was founded in the 17th century and is sacred to the Hindu Goddess Durga, worshipped in the form of Shaligram.
Varahi, founded in the 18th century, stands on a small island in Phewa Lake. Accessible by boat, the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his boar incarnation and is home to many cooing pigeons.
