Overview
Chandragiri Hill Tour – Nestled on the southwest side of the valley. Rises at an elevation of 2,551 meters provide a perfect vantage point to witness the exquisite beauty of Kathmandu. The third highest hill of the valley offers visitors grandeur views of the Himalayas, lush networks of green hills, and the concrete jungles of Kathmandu.
The region is regarded as an important historical site. As it was from these hills that King Prithvi Narayan Shah imagined annexing the valley into his kingdom. According to folklore, Prithvi Narayan Shah is believed to have amassed spiritual powers for the unification process after undergoing rigorous ‘sadhana’ or meditation at these very hills. Apart from the historical significance large number of hikers and nature enthusiasts flock to this region to soak in the pristine environment. Various groups of bird watchers also stroll these hills as various birds including Grey Wagtail, Steppe Eagle, Kingfishers, Common Myna, Indian Pond Heron, Oriental Turtle Dove, Red-vented Bulbul, Great Egret, House Crow, House Sparrow, Little Egret, Spotted Dove can be found in these lush woodlands.
From the bottom of the hill, there are two ideal ways to the summit. One follows a well-maintained series of stairs intertwined with lush woodlands. The hike starts from Machhegaun and ends at the ridge of the hill which takes around 4 to 5 hours. The other way up is on a short cable car ride. The ride covers a distance of 2.4 kilometers and takes around 9 minutes to reach the summit.
Upon reaching the summit witness, extraordinary views of the topography. The wide views of the valley are surrounded by lush networks of green hills and dotted with concrete jungles. The snow-capped mountain’s peak from Annapurna to Everest. Also visit the temple of Bhaleshwor Mahadev, which is believed to possess wish-granting powers.
