Day 1 :
Arrive in Paro (2,300 Meters/ 7,545 Feet) and Drive to Thimphu (2,334 Meters/ 7,657 Feet)
Upon your arrival in Paro, you'll be greeted by a representative from the Female Guide Kathmandu, who will escort you to your accommodations in Thimphu. The drive itself will be a feast for your eyes as you take in breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountain range. Once you've settled in at your hotel, your guide will take you on a comprehensive tour of Paro, allowing you to explore the city's numerous landmarks and cultural sites. Among the stops on your itinerary will be Dungste Lhakang, a temple built in the 15th century, and Rinpung Dzong, a fortress-monastery that serves as a symbol of Bhutan's rich heritage and traditions. You'll also have the opportunity to visit the National Museum of Bhutan, which houses a vast collection of artifacts and exhibits related to the country's history and culture. Additionally, you'll explore Kichu Lhakhang, the oldest temple in Bhutan, and learn about its significance as a sacred site for the Bhutanese people. Overnight in Thimphu.
Day 2 :
Drive Thimphu (2,334 meters/ 7,657 feet) to Punakha (1,242 Meters/ 4,074 Feet). Drive Time: 3 Hours/ 75 Km
Embark on a journey to Punakha, the former winter capital of Bhutan, as you begin your day. Explore the exquisite medieval fortress and monastery of Trashi Chhoe Dzong, which houses the King's Throne room and most of the government's offices. As you step inside, you'll notice the summer residence of Je Khenpo, the Chief Abbot, adding to the serene ambiance. Next, visit the National Library, where you can marvel at an extensive collection of ancient Buddhist texts and manuscripts. Following this, proceed to the Arts & Crafts School, renowned for producing traditional Thangkha paintings. You'll be amazed by the intricate designs on cloth created by the talented students. The Textile and Folk Heritage Museums are your next stop, where you'll witness a captivating testimony to the Bhutanese material culture and traditions. Enjoy lunch and then visit the Handicrafts Emporium to discover a vast assortment of stunning hand-woven and crafted products. A trip to the Memorial Chorten is next. This beautiful stupa is dedicated to Bhutan's Third King, who is known as the Father of Modern Bhutan. Immerse yourself in Buddhist philosophy as you admire the paintings and statues inside this monument. In the late afternoon, drive across Dochula Pass (3,080 meters) to reach Punakha. As you travel, feast your eyes on the majestic Himalayan peaks, including Masagang (7,158 meters), Tsendagang (6,960 meters), Terigang (7,060 meters), Jejegangphugang (7,158 meters), Kangphugang (7,170 meters), and Zongphugang (7,060 meters). A table mountain that dominates the isolated region of Lunana and Gangkar Puensum, the highest peak in Bhutan at 7,497 meters, complete the panoramic view. Overnight in Punakha.
Day 3 :
Punakha (1,242 Meters/ 4,074 Feet) to Wangdue Phodrang (1,273 Meters/4,176 Feet) and back to Paro (2,300 Meters/ 7,545 Feet).
Early in the morning visit the Punakha Dzong, strategically located at the confluence of Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. This magnificent fortress was built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to serve as the religious and administrative center of the region. Punakha Dzong holds immense historical significance in Bhutanese culture, having withstood four catastrophic fires and an earthquake. You'll be mesmerized by its impressive architecture and restored beauty. Next, drive to Wangdue Phodrang to explore the district's local market and visit the Dzong. Known for its bamboo products, slate, and stone carvings, Wangdue Phodrang is an ideal place to experience Bhutan's traditional crafts and culture. After lunch, head to Paro with a short stop at Dochula Pass to witness the stunning views of the Himalayan range. While en route to Paro, take the opportunity to visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in the Kingdom built-in 1627. The fortress now serves as the School for Buddhist Studies, offering a unique opportunity to learn about Buddhist traditions and the kingdom's rich cultural heritage. Overnight in Paro.
Day 4 :
Sightseeing Paro (2,300 Meters/ 7,545 Feet)
Embark on an adventure to Taktsang Monastery, Bhutan's most iconic monastery, after breakfast. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche arrived at the monastery on the back of a tigress and meditated here, which is why it's also known as the "Tiger's Nest." The excursion to the monastery takes approximately 5 hours round trip and is well worth the effort, with breathtaking views and a fascinating history. In the afternoon, visit Ta Dzong, the National Museum of Bhutan. Originally built as a watchtower, it has been serving as the National Museum since 1967. Here, you'll find a captivating collection of art, artifacts, thangka paintings, and Bhutan's exquisite postage stamps. Immerse yourself in Bhutan's rich cultural heritage and gain insight into the kingdom's history. After your visit to Ta Dzong, take a stroll down the trail to visit Rinpung Dzong, a fortress-monastery with a captivating history. The dzong has stood tall for centuries and is a prime example of Bhutanese architecture. Explore the intricate details of the dzong's structure and admire the artwork and paintings within its walls. Overnight in Paro.
Day 5 :
Final Departure
